Presidents Letter 2009-2010
July 1, 2009
Dear COPAS
Members:
I hope
everyone is having a fantastic summer. It
is hard to believe that fall will be here
before we know it. September is around the
corner and an exciting year is planned for
COPAS of Michigan.
September 24,
2009 we will be meeting in Traverse City at
the Grand Traverse Resort. At the time of
this letter we are still finalizing the
programs to be presented. More details will
follow.
October 26,
2009 we will present an educational seminar
in Traverse City. We are still in the
planning stages for this event and are very
excited about the seminar options. We will
update you as soon as the seminar topic has
been determined.
The COPAS Fall
National Meeting is in Branson, Missouri on
October 19-23. This is a chance to see what
is going on in our field on a national
level. I will be attending and any board
member is encouraged to attend.
On November
12, 2009, we will be meeting in Gaylord at a
location to be determined. We will update
you as more information becomes available.
Our final two
meetings of the 2009-10 year will be on
February 19 and April 16 in Traverse City at
the Grand Traverse Resort.
As a group, we
continue to work on planning our meetings to
make them informative, educational, and
worth attending. Some of the possible
program topics include (but are not limited
to) oil and gas accounting best practices,
international accounting standards, the
basics of reserve reporting, the basics of
well logging, how to read a drilling report,
and carbon credits. We also plan on updating
the group on various industry-related
taxation issues and carbon credit
regulations. Please let any of the officers
know if you have any suggestions. This
group provides a great opportunity to
explore relevant oil and gas topics and
offers great networking resources.
Also, I
encourage you to utilize your COPAS network
to assist you with any industry-related
challenges that you cannot solve on your
own. This group has a lot of valuable
experience, and membership gives you access
to over 3,500 members from 24 individual
societies throughout North America.
We look
forward to seeing everyone in the fall.
Best wishes,
Dan
Triezenberg
